13 Sep 2018 “None of the proposed climate geoengineering techniques is realistically likely to be deployable on a global scale within the coming decades.

These methods of study are used in USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center Global Geoengineering Research. Date published: October 27, 2018 Status: Active geoengineering from conventional mitigation arises from deep uncertainties about the appropriate extent of deliberate human management of global biogeochemical systems.

Dedicated governance will eventually be warranted, and given the global stakes, some governance should be international. Potential geoengineering methods for injecting sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere to create sulfuric acid clouds that limit global warming. An appraisal of five geoengineering methods (two SRM [stratospheric aerosols and cloud whitening] and three CDR) using four categories of geopolitically relevant ranking criteria. Each category has several subcategories, and more color within a panel of the figure represents less geopolitical risk for a particular method for a particular subcategory. Various methods have been proposed to prevent this temperature increase either by reflecting to space sunlight that would otherwise warm Earth or by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Such intentional alteration of planetary-scale processes has been termed geoengineering. Geoengineering also gives more time to restore the environment.

Though many of us Geoengineering has been proposed as a way to reverse or limit climate change by intentional, large-scale manipulation of the Earth’s climate. There are two main methods: “Solar radiation management (SRM)” reflects a small amount of the sun’s light and heat back into space. Works relatively quickly. As one of the highest ranking programmes in its field, the Master’s Programme in Geoengineering provides world-class education in the disciplines of geotechnical engineering, highway engineering and rock engineering. The programme has close links with the industry and offers the graduated geoengineers clear route to employment where they can play a key role in urbanisation and circular economy.

CDR methods extract CO2 from the atmosphere and thus increase the energy flowing out from the Earth. Some geoengineering methods have the potential to greatly reduce climate change but pose physical risks and social challenges. Dedicated governance will eventually be warranted, and given the global stakes, some governance should be international. 2019-05-29 Furthermore, most potential methods are either in the early stages of development or merely theoretical considerations and therefore unavailable. Geoengineering measures seem attractive because a technical solution to the climate problem makes "business as usual" possible and … Stop using fossil fuels.

Solar geoengineering. There are several proposed solar geoengineering technologies. These include marine cloud brightening, cirrus cloud thinning, space-based techniques, and stratospheric aerosol scattering, amongst others. Marine cloud brightening would attempt to brighten marine clouds to reflect more sunlight back into space.

One that has gained my personal attention is stratospheric aerosol injection, or SAI, a method of seeding the stratosphere with particles that can help reflect the sun’s heat, in much the same way that volcanic eruptions do. Global warming is probably the biggest threat facing humanity. If all else fails, could climate-controlling technology be the answer?
